From the supplier: Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia have implemented policies to lay the foundations for current convertibility. Current convertibility allows consumers and producers to make decisions based on price signals, increases competition by removing foreign exchange restrictions and promotes a positive environment for investments. The four preconditions of covertibility are internal financial balance to avoid excessive inflation, external financial balance by setting the exchange rate that clears the demand and supply of foreign exchange, maintenance of an adequate level of reserves and liberalized incentive systems. The three countries have met these preconditions by improving their budgets, following flexible exchange rates and applying reforms such a liberalizing prices, reforming the financial sector and reducing import tariffs.
